UNSOS Field Technology Services (FTS) Signals Academy conducts interoperability training for AMISOM and SNA

UNSOS through its Field Technology Services (FTS) Signals Academy, has been conducting interoperability training for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the Somali security forces.

The training aims to foster interoperability between AMISOM and Somali security forces when they conduct joint operations in support of the transition plan. One such training took place in Mogadishu from 2 to 26 February 2020, where 99 participants were trained, comprising 76 from AMISOM and 23 from the Somali National Army (SNA). The courses covered diverse topics such as Operations Room Management, Logistics Planning, Cyber Security Awareness, English Language to enable interoperability, Presentation and Briefing Skills.

This was followed by the Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) training for AMISOM and the SNA, conducted by the academy, in collaboration with United Kingdom Mission Support Team (UK MST) from 2 to 12 March 2020. Other training programs carried out in March 2020 included Business Continuity, Basic Computer Skills, Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA A+), ICT Systems, Introduction to Microwave, Windows 10 Fundamentals and Tetra End User. Altogether 178 participants benefited from the training, including 162 staff from AMISOM and 16 from SNA.

It is hoped that the training will help to enhance operational and combat effectiveness of AMISOM and the SNA.
