Ms. Lisa Filipetto
Assistant Secretary-General and Head of UNSOS
Ms. Filipetto brings to this position more than 30 years of experience within the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade where she served in a variety of posts at headquarters, including as Assistant Secretary, European Union and Western Europe Branch (2015-2017), Assistant Secretary, Services and Intellectual Property Branch, Office of Trade Negotiations (2002-2004) and Assistant Secretary, Mainland South East Asia and South Asia Branch (2001-2002).
Ms. Filipetto also has extensive experience overseas, having served as Australia's resident Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, with concurrent responsibility for Australia's relations with the African Union, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and Djibouti (2010-2014). She further served as Australian High Commissioner to Kenya and Ambassador to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN Habitat as well as non-resident accreditation High Commissioner to Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda and Ambassador to the African Union, Burundi, Djibouti and Eritrea (2007-2010). She also served as Ambassador to Cambodia (2004-2010), Consul-General, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (1997-2001), as well as in Ireland (1991-1994) and Brunei Darussalam (1986-88).
Ms. Filipetto holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from Deakin University in Australia, as well as Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies degrees from the Australian National University. She is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Mr. Amadu Kamara
Director of UNSOS and Director of Mission Support, UNSOM
Mr. Kamara is a United States citizen of Sierra Leonean descent. He completed his higher education in the United States of America, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Economics from the State University of New York, with post-graduate studies at the New School for Social Research in New York. Mr. Kamara joined the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) as a Procurement Officer in October 1993. During his tenure he served in various capacities in the support component of peacekeeping operations, both at UN Headquarters and in many field missions.
Following his service as Chief of Mission Support of the UN Mission in Timor Leste, he was appointed Director of UNSOA in April 2012, and concurrently as the Director of Mission Support of UNSOM. He also served temporarily from 2014 to 2015 as Crisis Manager of the UN Mission for Emergency Ebola Response operations in Sierra Leone.
Mr. Kamara continues to serve as Director of UNSOS, and Director of Mission Support of UNSOM.
