5 June 2019 was marked globally as World Environment Day with the theme of “Air pollution”. As 5 June was a United Nations Official Holiday in Somalia, the celebration of World Environment Day was held in Mogadishu on 11 June 2019, with activities conducted by UNSOM, UNSOS and AMISOM. The activities ranged from removing litter and weeds along roads, planting trees on the roadside, and launching of bicycling by Senior Leadership of UNSOM, UNSOS and AMISOM, within the Mogadishu International Airport area (MIA).
