AMISOM honours outgoing Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia

The AU Mission in Somalia feted the outgoing Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), Hubert Price, for his efforts to improve the logistical support to AU troops on the frontline, at a ceremony held in Mogadishu, on 30 January 2018.

Mr. Price has concluded a year’s tour of duty in Somalia. “We can say that, in what concerns AMISOM logistics arm, which is UNSOS, relations with us have improved tremendously,” noted the AU Special Representative for Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Madeira.

Appointed Head of UNSOS in October 2016, Mr. Price presided over and enhanced the massive and often complex logistical support operations to AMISOM, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia(UNSOM) and to the Somali National Army during joint operations with AMISOM.

“The challenges ahead at this particular time are still many, but I believe that with the teamwork that we have had, those challenges will be dealt with and can be overcome,” Price said.

He lauded the international community’s active involvement in finding solutions to challenges facing Somalia. “I trust the engagement with the principals to continue to look for the solutions, and am sure we got a positive future as we move forward,” he noted.

Price was awarded a plaque by Ambassador Madeira, in appreciation of his distinguished service in Somalia, at a ceremony attended by the UN Secretary General’s envoy for Somalia Michael Keating, senior UN and AMISOM officials, among others.
